Annual General Meeting – Did you miss the meeting?

The Brockville Concert Association’s Annual General Meeting was held on Monday January 17, 2022.

The meeting included discussion about our successes in 2021, what needed improvement, and how to apply what we learned to our 2022-2023 season.

The BCA marks its 75th anniversary in 2023. Anyone interested in joining us as a board member, or as part of the 75th anniversary planning committee, is encouraged to get in touch.

As a member of the Ontario Classical Music Network, the BCA networked with other volunteer-run concert associations in Ontario, and shared information about performers and concert schedules. The BCA also attended the ContactONtour conference which included a terrific opportunity to evaluate 30 acts and artists. As part of the conference, BCA board members participated in virtual panels on collaboration, diversity, equity and inclusion.

As a charitable organization, the Board has now approved a motion to accept and apply a Diversity Statement to our policy and correspondence:

Diversity is a core value of the Brockville Concert Association. We believe in an inclusive and equitable organization where all volunteers, musicians and audience members whatever their gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation or identity, education or disability, feel valued and respected.  We value and celebrate diverse life experiences. The Brockville Concert Association is  committed to modeling diversity and inclusion and to maintaining an inclusive environment with equitable treatment for all.

Existing board members will be continuing in their roles for another year and we were happy to welcome Carolyn Bennett to the Board. Ms. Bennett was a board member at the Revue Cinema in Toronto and helped the not-for-profit film society secure an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant.  She brings many years experience in government and the arts and culture sector.

The BCA will be pursuing several grant applications in the coming months. Our financial situation is stable and we aspire to increase our reserves through fund-raising and increased ticket sales. Our financial officer has worked diligently with other professionals to ensure we remain viable.

We look forward to celebrating the BCA’s 75th anniversary by bringing a slate of exciting concerts and events to our community in 2022-2023. Please join our mailing list to be the first to hear about upcoming events and news.
